The North East and Cumbria Learning Disability Network cancer project is hosting a webinar next month to share the findings of a project exploring where people with a learning disability get help and support following a cancer diagnosis.

The network’s cancer workers, funded by Northern Cancer Alliance, have led the project, with support from Northern Cancer Voices. It has gathered insight from people with lived experience, including individuals with a cancer diagnosis and those supporting close family members.

The webinar on Monday 9 March 2026, 12.30-1.30pm, will discuss the findings which highlight a strong reliance on family and friends, with limited use of formal or professional support services.

The session will also share personal experiences, and practical recommendations to help improve services and support for people with a learning disability affected by cancer.

The webinar is open to anyone interested in improving understanding, care and experiences. Register online here.

Kay Southern and Lindsey Fothergill began their roles as the network’s cancer workers last year with the aim of making things better for people living with a learning disability who experience cancer – find out more.
