Who Will be Invited to a Lung Health Check?

Patients will receive an invitation to a Lung Health Check if they:

  • Are registered with a GP practice
  • Smoke or used to smoke
  • Are aged between 55 and 74 years at the point their practice population is invited to a Lung Health Check

If you think you might be eligible for a Lung Health Check, it’s important that your smoking status is recorded correctly in your GP record. If it’s not, you won’t receive an invitation when your practice is invited. If you’re not sure whether it is recorded, please check at your next appointment.

There are over 340,000 people in the North East and North Cumbria who are eligible for a Lung Health Check. Invites are being issued on a practice-by-practice basis. It will take time for every eligible person to receive an invite, so don’t be surprised if it’s a while before you receive yours. In the meantime, take care of your lung health by stopping smoking if you currently smoke and look out for any changes in your breathing.
